Apollo

Throw the damn ball, food lady!
I know I'm pretty. Throw the damn ball already!
GOT IT!
*GALLOP GALLOP*

Apollo has a cute puppyish run that he never really outgrew. A rocking sort of gait. It's hilarious to watch him run around when he's in a particularly playful mode. I wish I could capture it on camera.

Saturday Morning Pictures

I had unusually "itchy feet" (aka, the wanderlust) and decided to go to the Farmer's Market in Arlington. Sadly, there weren't many producers selling fruits/vegetables yet. There were several flea-market type stands though.

On the way to my metro stop.

I admit, I have a love affair with tomatoes
Deeeelish
One stand had a bunch of old cameras.
I really wanted this one. $100 bucks, alas.

Going home. I had a 20 minute wait at the Courthouse Metro and got bored.

Finally. On the train...

On my way home from metro, I decided to stop at a car wash. My car was covered in pollen.
Neat water light effects...

FIRE FIRE FIRE!

Not as bad as few months ago though. Someone was cooking and things got a little out of hand. I took the opportunity to shoot a few pictures. None came out as I hoped, but it was still good practice.

In other news. Apollo is dubbed THE DESTROYER OF ALL TOYS

This is a squeaky rubber ball called the "Evil Cuz".
Apollo promptly tore the poor Cuz' (Cuz's?) feet off.
Although this time, he left the horns on. Last time I gave him this toy, he nibbled them off.
THE DESTROYER OF ALL TOYS hard at work.

Headaches Are Fun. Not.

One would think that, because I'm deaf, noises wouldn't bother me as much. But they do. Everytime my coworker sneezes, it feels like someone is stabbing me in my brain. And she sneezes often.

I could turn my hearing aid off, but I hate doing that...then I can't hear people when they sneak walk up behind me and scare the beejeezus outta me.

I have a few new pictures, I'll load them tonight.

"Blue Period"

Finally got around to loading a few pictures. A few good friends and I went to the tidal basin in DC to visit the cherry blossoms. I totally forgot to fix the light balance from the last time I was shooting. Oops. Some of them are quite striking, though. Gotta love the happy accidents.

Look! Look! I think I stumbled onto something here.
Blue-toned pictures convert to sepia very nicely.

Little darker than I'd like, but can be fixed in photoshop, if I ever get it.
This isn't a spectacular picture, but I liked how the flowers just POPS out at you.
I can't decide if I like this or hate it.

Lazy Days of Aug-err...April

Weather hasn't been cooperative. I know, I could go out and shoot in the rain...Probably could snag one or two cool shots, but rain makes me tired and lazy. And it's been raining a lot lately. Here's a recycled picture from last May. This, 10 months later, is still gracing my work computer's wallpaper.

Daffodils Series Plus One

Foiled by a too-hot lamp (and lack of planning), I decided to just goof around a bit. Using the remnants of my setup-gone-wrong, I shot this "plus one":Not a horrible picture. I think if I had a backdrop that matched the surface that the tomato is on, it'd blend a bit better. Probably could be fixed in photoshop though.

A happy accident. I like this one even though it's blurry. So I did some more blurry ones on purpose. I also skewed the white balance heavily to get the wonky color tints.

Another blurry one.

Nice and crisp. I can't decide if I like this or not though.

A "normal" picture destined to hang in someone's bathroom.

Gotta Love Brainfarts

I had an idea for a funny (ish? depending on your perspective) post, but with the hubbub at work, totally forgot it. Maybe it'll come back to me.

No new photos, unfortunately. I was experimenting with a technique that I read about online, but this happened:
1. I nicked my hand on a sheet of glass I took out of a picture frame. It bled for like, 2 seconds.
2. I almost set a shoebox on fire with a lamp.

I'll try describe the setup. The idea is to light up an item from underneath. Sounds simple, right? I read this article a few weeks ago, and the details were fuzzy last night. So I grabbed a shoebox, the aforementioned sheet of glass, a couple bendy lamps, one of which had 100-watt bulb (see where this is going yet?) and set to work on it.

I cut a big hole in the box's lid, then a little hole in the box's side so that one of the bendy lamps' (the one with 100-watt bulb) neck could fit in it, and carefully angled the head so it was facing upward, turned the lamp on which BRIGHTLY illuminated the bigger hole in the box.

All was well and I went about my business, looking for something to photograph, and hrmming about BRIGHT it was and debating whether I could photograph it. After a few minutes, I got my my camera ready and looked through the viewfinder. And saw distinct, thin tendrils of smoke drifting up. from the box.

Uh oh! No actual fire though. That terminated my experiment. I will try again after I reread the article and find appropriately-sized items...and perhaps a lower watt bulb.
