Friday Apollo
Apollo still refuses to look at the scary black box, even if I try to lure him with a treat. He also turns his head, refusing to acknowledge the existence of annoying dogs or anything else he doesn't like.

Friday Apollo
I've been somewhat busy recently - I had family in town for awhile, and that ate into my time. I played catch-up this week and am back on track. And bonus - I'm nearly done with my second Website (nevermind that the first isn't done). Keep an eye out for the link.

Friday Apollo
Tried to catch Apollo running, but he's too darned fast and tends to go straight away from me (only get butt shots) or straight back to me. So I tried to fake him out and get him to run laterally. Didn't work out too well..
But I did managed to shoot him mincing his way around the field when he was bored with fetching.

Friday Apollo Says Aflaaaaac!
My mom sent a stuffed toy for Apollo to play with.
It has a little voice box that says "Aflac!" At first Apollo wouldn't play with it because it didn't squeak like his other stuffed toys. That didn't last long.
Here he is mocking me with the toy. Daring me to take it away. The very tippy tip of his tail was wagging ever so gently while he growled softly at me.
That poor ducky. For the next 30 minutes I let him play with it, all I heard was the croaking of Af-Af-Af-Aflac! while Apollo tossed the sucker around.
Think we could get him in an Anti-Aflac commercial?
P.S. Please ignore the mess in the background. Apollo has a sock fetish and we typically have one or two socks laying around in the living room.

Belated Friday Apollo & Pseudo HDR tutorial
"Hi!"
As promised a couple weeks ago, here's a brief set of instructions for those of you interested in creating pseudo HDR images. To make it really easy, what I suggest is downloading an "action," - a pre-recorded set of instructions that tells your program how to manipulate an image automatically. It's a great shortcut, but also a crutch.
I found the one I use here: www.finessefx.com. This particular action made by Karl Sneath is pretty effective for drawing out details in washed-out sky. You will need to download and install this in your Adobe folder.
(Side note: there are also downloadable actions for other progams like Gimp)
After you have installed this...As always, make sure to save a copy of the original photo in a new filename and work on that instead of the original - these actions are quite destructive and can affect the image quality, and some actions - not the one I suggested downloading - will automatically save for you after it has finished making changes, making it difficult for you to get original image back if you don't like the results.
Look for the triangle icon in your menu. If it's not there, you can hit Alt+F9
(2) Then scroll down until you see the name of the action. If you downloaded the same pseudo HDR one that I did, it will be clearly labeled, "Pseudo HDR." Click on the folder to open it. (3) click on the first step to highlight it, then (4) click on the triangle (aka play button) near bottom.
Once you click the play button, you can sit back and let the action run. It will ask you occasionally to click "OK" or to make a few minor tweaks. As you play with this feature, you'll get a better idea of what works and what doesn't.
As you can see, when this action is finished, you've a number of layers to play with, to make any further tweaks to your image. For example, if I decide I don't want vignetting at all, I can just unclick the "eye" and it goes away.
I know my instructions aren't comprehensive, but really, best way to learn this stuff is to play with photoshop yourself. It should get you started, at least. Read more...

Friday Apollo
For Apollo's fans. Taken on the Green "Mountain" - it's not really a mountain. I attest this to the fact that I'm still alive and breathing after reaching 2nd-highest point.

The cowardly lion
Apollo is precious and holds a place in my heart. I love him, he's my big baby. But I can laugh at him. And do so often.
A couple nights ago, we went out for a walk. On our way back in, we passed the little garden in my front yard that's always humming with bumblebees - there's some plants in there that they love. When we got in the house, Apollo started to give me funny looks over his shoulder.
I noticed, but didn't think much of it. I thought he was just being silly, as he sometimes is. Then, in my bedroom, he stared at my pants intently. Definitely something up. I looked down, and saw a fat ol' bumblebee hanging onto my pants. It probably had been buzzing away all along. I looked back up to find a container to trap the bee in it, and where was Apollo?
Standing on my bed, as far away as he could get from me, with a look of horror on his face. (No, I'm not anthropomorphizing Apollo - he really did look scared.)
Snickering, I found a glass and trapped the bee in it - and checked to see if it was the stinging type - it wasn't. I tried to show it to Apollo, but he just ran to the other side of the room. My big ol' dog who sleeps through thunderstorms is scared of a fat bumblebee.
He's also afraid of cats. There're a couple outdoor cats who Apollo loves tug at the leash, bounce around and bark and bark with bravoism every time we spot them, but if they venture too close or hiss at him, where is he?
Behind me. Yep, he's my cowardly lion.

Goals: 3. Me: 0
I wrote a couple weeks ago that I was going to do three things: Write, make a cover for my chair and make a mini-studio.
So far, I'm 0 for 3. But! I have a good reason. Well, for #2, anyhow. When I got the fabric out (which I purchased a long time ago), I realized that I probably should practice first since I don't have much fabric to spare.
So, I opted to make this instead...
A really big, colorful mat for Apollo?
No...I have deemed this will be a "manly" bed for Apollo.
Apollo is barking his approval here...(or is it distaste?)
And I will use leftovers to make...something! I bought too much fabric.
