How DUMB is this couple?!?

A genius couple decides to experiment in bed. Normally I would shrug and think that's just dandy...until I read what they chose to do. Male Genius put a dildo on a power tool - a saber saw blade, no less - and fired it up. I really want to know: Did either one of them at any time think that this might be a bad idea? Did the thought even flicker across their minds? What about the Female Genius? Who wants the risk of a sharp thing up your hoo-ha? Or even near it? This boggles my mind.

The saw unsurprisingly cut through the dildo and injures the woman. Fortunately, it sounds like she wasn't too badly hurt, though I imagine she won't need an episiotomy if she has kids (fair warning, male readers - don't click on that link unless you really want to know what that is).

The news article

Free advice to the genius couple or any other couples: if you're ever tempted to stick a dildo on any power tools...do yourselves a favor and just go buy a vibrator instead. They're not expensive nowadays.

Homeless...

They're a touchy issue. I see them everyday, I know they're mostly ordinary people who just had a bad run in luck. But I have no idea how to deal when I see them on the streets. I'm not a native urban local.

Do I follow the en mass like a sheep and pretend they don't exist? Or do I acknowledge them - and risk pissing them off, which has happened - by making eye contact?

I can't win either way.

And there are the panhandlers. Give them money, some will mutter a "thank you" and look for the next poor sap. And there are others who will demand more. I don't carry cash, so usally all I have are pennies. The aggressive ones will call me names if I give them that. I don't really blame 'em. I mean. If I were in rags, living off change, and some chick who obviously has a job and can feed herself gave me 3 cents...I tell ya, I wouldn't be happy.

I'll be honest though, I don't like it when a crazy-looking, smelly person starts screaming at me. Who would?

Let me pose a question for ya'all. If you see a homeless that's unconscious, maybe hurt. Or drunk. Would you help him or ignore him? Assume he's drunk off his ass and leave him alone or stop to check in on him?

This was on the news last week. It illustrates this problem pretty vividly.

"A man who was ignored by passersby for almost 20 minutes this week as he lay on a sidewalk after being assaulted in Columbia Heights has died of his injuries, D.C. police said yesterday."

What would you do?

It's a sad day when people walk by a dying man and do nothing. There's a special place in hell for them. I have a hard time believing that a man goes down - and dies of his injuries - and doesn't have any visible signs of injuries. Even if that's accurate, if you see a guy lying on the sidewalk, wouldn't your first instinct be to run to him? Where this attack occurred is in a so-so area. It's not the safest, but it's not the worst. If it was some sort of trap or scam...There were people around who could presumably help. Oh, but wait - why would they? They didn't help the poor fucker lying on the ground. Yep, special place. Apathy really sucks.

And for the record - I have given money to panhandlers in the past, when I had a couple bucks to spare. Way I see it, if they sit outside in the freezing cold for hours hoping to get money, they sure as hell need it a lot more than I do, whether it's for drugs, alcohol or food.

Metro girl

Before:

After:

What I did: Tweaked the tones so the chick wasn't so yellow, got rid of errant flyaway hair, smoothed her hair so that it looked a little more groomed/styled and got rid of skin discolorations. That's all. Didn't put a lot of work into this.

I wonder what she was thinking.

'Round the World

I use a free program to figure out how many readers I have for this blog (I average about 8 daily readers), and about 25% of that are new visitors. One other feature the program has is it lets me know where the readers' IP originates from. It isn't very specific -- I can't see your actual IP address so don't worry, but it does tell me the country, state and town. What it doesn't do, however, is tell me how often a particular IP hits this blog.

It's fascinating for me. Especially when I see foreign countries on the map. I always wonder if they like the blog, how they found it. Will they read it again (I also wonder that for U.S. readers)? Can they read it (especially in non-English countries)?
Here's a list of non-U.S. countries for the past 30 days:

  • Brazil
  • Turkey
  • Latvia
  • Ireland
  • Spain
  • France
  • Germany
  • Canada

As for U.S. I haven't gotten readers from all 50 states. Yet. Soon!

And please remember to comment, even if it's to say "God, that was a boring post. You just wasted 30 seconds of my life." I don't mind that. Really. I'm still figuring out what I want this blog to be about.

Gorgeous Shiny Days

If it isn't evident already, yes, weather do affect my moods. It's been beautiful, and nice and crisp out. I took oodles of pictures of Apollo running around in my parents' backyard, to test the new lens. I need new filters though - it's a different mm size than the kit lens. No biggie - they're cheap. I've been browsing strobist's blog (link to right), and it's becoming very apparent how much more I have to learn about photography especially the lighting aspect.

I'll have Apollo's pictures loaded tonight or tomorrow. As mentioned before, I went to a friend's fifth annual halloween party. It wasn't a major affair like the past parties, probably because a higher number of people now have small children and couldn't drink as much or stay as late. I dressed up as a "photographer" -- lame, I know. But it turned out to be a good thing. I had people yelling, "Jen, take pictures of us!" or "Jenny, take picture of that (funny pairing of costume)!" all night. I think I took about 200 pictures, I'll hand them over to one of the PA girls to scrapbook (she likes scrapbooking). No pictures on the blog though - I won't load them unless I have explicit permission.

Anyway, these are very creative, smart, fun people to hang out with. KR and her fiance went as egg and bacon. Then someone showed up wearing a chicken costume. I snapped a picture of KR and the chicken guy. Which came first, chicken or egg?

MMH, the hostess was a '30s cigarrette girl (chick wearing cute outfit with a little platter of cigarettes and candies) and her hubby dressed up drag as a bimbo sport ref, fake boobs and all; KC and DC - Dr. Seuss' 1 and 2, a deviled egg (egg costume with devil props), zombie scarecrow, a leaf blower (a guy wearing leaves hanging from his baseball hat, he spent the evening blowing them out of his face), KSko and TSko as stone age couple, KW as pirate and her hubby a monk (I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a couple costume, somehow) and oh, yes...Because there was a major PSU/OSU game on that night, one guy showed up dressed like the OSU mascot, with a noose around his neck.

Bummer that PSU lost.

Why is it...

At an empty intersection, people will continue to stand at the corner while they wait for the crossing sign light to change?

People will gladly enter an expensive facility for free, but balk at shelling out two bucks for a map of the grounds? Don't throw a fit over two frigging bucks! If you want a map that bad, dig in the trash. The incident in question took place at the DC zoo. The aforementioned $2 goes toward a fund for care of the animals.

Sheesh. Stupid people.
