Colorado Cactus

Who knew that Colorado has cactus? I didn't prior to moving here - I didn't think it was dry enough here for them. Yet there they were. Where Apollo and I were walking - on a foothill - we had to share narrow trails with bikers, and I was worried Apollo would blunder into one. He has NO experience with this kind of thorny problem.


Because the grass blended in with the cactus, I burned it - in photoshop, not literally - so that the cactus popped out more, visually. Easy, quick and effective means if your photo subject is blending with the background.

More people, more scars upon the land


The bright spring green you see is the fragile plant life that is also at risk of being exterminated. People are strongly discouraged from walking on them, for fear that they are irreparably damaged. I did touch it with my hand and found that it felt like how it looked - as soft as puppy's fur or a newborn's blanket.

National Harbor

I initially planned to go to National Cathedral today, but because we had flat, gray clouds today, I didn't think I'd have good photos of the exterior. A friend convinced me to go check the National Aquarium, which just recently went under renovations. I was not impressed. But I've been spoiled by the Aquarium in Baltimore. The aquarium here was tiny - and in a basement under the Dept. of Commerce building. Yes, you read that right. The National Aquarium in a basement.
