Cars

Sometimes I have a hard time drumming up ideas to blog about. I found this website the other day: Skribit. It's a website with user-generated content. Translation - people post blog ideas.

Here's the first one I picked: Dream cars.
First one is a Lotus Elise. It's the only street-legal racing car in good ol' USA. And it's barely legal.

This is a 2005 Lotus Elise

I like this car because it's geninuely a racing car. It looks like one, inside and out.

Second and more affordable - a Jeep Wrangler. I particularly like old, pre-plastic models. Can't find a good picture.

Third? Hmm. A late 60s or early 70s muscle car like the Mustang, Viper, etc. I don't know old cars well, so I can't really express a preference for a specific model or year.

'71 Mustang
Check out the 'fro on that guy, hah.

Inspiration...

Now and then, I look at blogs out there in the blogsphere for ideas and inspirations. This is my current favorite right now: www.dooce.com. Not for the content, but rather, in layout and design. And better yet, the author of this site makes so much money from the advertisements on her blog that both she and her husband no longer work. How's that for inspiration, huh?

I think this blog will get another revamp in the near future, nevermind that I didn't finish the current one.

In other news...When I buy a house (if I ever do), I will make sure that there aren't dozens of old oaks surrounding it. Sure, they're pretty, but when you get this...

The trees lose their appeal. That pile is about 3 to 4 feet deep and about 15 ft wide.

Dear fat guy...

Here's a tip. When approaching a row of turnstiles that do not have lines in them, it is not necessary to shove the woman walking alongside you so that you can take the one directly in front of her instead of the one directly in front of you.

I see you on the train all the time, and you are now on my shit list. Next time you pull that stunt on me or anyone else, I am going trip your fat ass.

Love,
Your fellow metro rider.

Ack ack

Due to personal stuff going on in my life, the blog has fallen to the wayside. I'm not comfortable sharing the information on World Wide Web, but suffice it to say, it's very stressful - and it's due to a situation wholly out of my control.

I am slowly getting it reined in, and hopefully I'll be able to focus on fun stuff soon. Like writing here. And photographing. For the time being, much of my time is occupied by dealing with the drama, hanging out with Apollo and zoning out on zombiebox (aka TV).

At this very moment, the news is talking about cloning a woolly mammoth. And I'm sitting here wondering if that's smart. Michael Crichton explored this possibility in his Jurassic novels (rest in peace). For all we know, it's not biologically compatible with our environment now. There are new diseases, new flora and fauna. Of course, they'd keep it in a zoo in a controlled environment, but for how long?

PETA and other environmental and animal organizations would cry foul. Voters would cry foul after awhile (it'd be pricey pricey to maintain such environment). Would we euthanize it or set it loose? Without any of its natural enemies from ten thousand years ago (apparently when the last strain died out), how would it fare in our current world? Could it reproduce asexually as some critters can, ala the dinosaurs in Jurassic. There have been recent real-life examples of creatures not known to produce asexually that defied the odds and did (a shark).

Picture it...a herd of woolly mammoths, nearly twice as big as our elephants, roaming the Canadian or Siberian tundra, making short work of the local endangered polar bears and wolves.

Way I see it, if a species died out to nonmanmade causes...there's a reason and rhyme to the Mother Nature's design.

Chinatown

Went to Chinatown in DC for dinner last night. Very cool area, it was my first time going at nighttime. I'd like to go back with my camera, but I'm a bit leery of doing so. There were quite a few unsavory characters hanging out on the streets and I can't afford to lose my camera. Maybe I can convince a muscular friend to go with me.

Doesn't this look like a stage set from Blade Runner?

I haz Interweb

Woot! Roommate patiently put up with Verizon for two-plus hours to get it fixed. I don't know what the problem was - haven't gotten all of the details. But it was definitely an issue on their end. I admit, I'm pretty relieved. Although I ran tests and was confident that it wasn't my computer, I still had lingering doubts. And fretted a wee bit over how much it'd cost to fix my computer's innards. Got my mom's worrying genes, it seems.

Now I can get back to jobhunting and prowling the web! And of course posting pictures.

Original
Not too bad, but I feel like I have a gauze over my eyes when I look at this picture, especially when comparing with the following ones.

"Lomo" effect
I like, but it's a bit bright over to the right. My eyes keep drifting over there, which isn't necessarily good - the focus should be on the fallen tree. I'm going to try darkening the leaves a touch later. It could use a bit cropping along the top as well.

I forget what effect was used here.
I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, the picture is more balanced overall and more true to the original. And it's got a sort of vintagey, faraway almost faerie-like feel. But on the other, it's not as exciting/interesting as the lomo one above.

What do you folks think?

Toilet Mystery

My toilet broke - again. It was leaking into the basement. I contacted the Landlords and the husband came over to check it out Sunday. It's the seal - again. He didn't want to go out to get the parts to fix it and come back same day (grr), so he said he'd be over either Monday or Tuesday night. Fine, I said. We have a spare bathroom.

The spare bathroom - my roommates' - is disgusting. I don't like using it unless I can't help it. Monday morning, went in there to do my, y'know, thing, and then puttered around the house, getting ready for work.

Last night, came home, felt the call of the nature hit and walked into the bathroom.

The toilet seat was up.

Roommate hasn't been home. Landlord hasn't been over yet, that I know of. I'm a chick, I wouldn't leave the seat up. Nothing else has been disturbed. No intruders. So, I ask you, intrepid readers...who put the seat up?

“How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” - Sherlock Holmes, Sign of the Four.

My money is on the landlord. Or the mice.

Pet meee

Taken with my cellphone
I'm sneaking on at work. I still don't have internet. I strongly suspect it's the router - my computer connects to the router fine and is able to detect other wireless signals in the area, but ours won't connect to the internet at all. To make matter worse, the internet account is in my roommate's name - and he is out of town for awhile.

I'm going to order a new keyboard for my laptop, pray that I can install it and that it works, and then I'll see if I can get it working at an internet hotspot. (I spilled some liquid on the laptop's keyboard a few years ago and fried it). It'd be nice to have some minimal Web surfing capacity to check emails in evenings, at very least.

Not much else is new. I'm going to be setting up a new mini-studio this week. Planning to try sell some photos on iStock (what is it with the i-something craze??).

Hmm. What else. I recently made a major decision about my future, but will hold off blogging about it until I'm a bit closer to the deadline - around April. Tease!

Stay warm!

The Return of the.....

Teenage Loggerhead Ninja Turtle!

In other news, I'm working on creating a website to display my portfolio. It's only in the beginning stages though - I'm still messing around with the color schemes. My favorite right now is burnt reddish orange faded into grey for the background - it's really stunning and not too garish - but I'm worried that the orange color will clash and/or detract from the color pictures.

Also working on a story idea. It's NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. It started 3 days ago, and I'm already behind. Horrors! The goal is to write 50k words. I highly doubt I'll hit that, but I'm using this as an impetus to get on my rumpus and write!
